DPD is the carrier most brands move to when delivery promises start to matter. Tracked services, one hour delivery windows, and a customer experience people actually notice. What comes with it is a second system to work in.

Magento has no DPD connection of its own. So orders live in Magento, shipments get created in MyDPD, and someone copies between the two. Addresses get keyed in, labels get produced one at a time, tracking numbers get pasted back so the customer notification fires.

At ten orders a day that's an irritation. At a hundred it's a person's entire morning, and every manual step is somewhere a wrong address or a missed order can enter.

Zenstores sits between the two and removes the copying. Magento orders import automatically, rules assign the right DPD service as they arrive, and tracking returns to Magento once the label prints.

  1. Connect your Magento store to Zenstores

In Zenstores, add your Magento store and paste in the API key and endpoint generated from your Magento admin. Orders start importing into your dispatch queue straight away. Magento 1 and Magento 2 are both supported, as is Adobe Commerce, so this holds whichever edition you run.

  2. Add your DPD account

Go to Settings, then Carriers, then add DPD. You can connect your own DPD account, or open a new DPD account directly through Zenstores. Worth knowing that DPD and DPD Local are separate integrations, so if you use both you add them individually.

  3. Choose which DPD services you need

Zenstores gives you every service on your DPD account, so decide which ones your orders actually need before you write any rules. Most brands use a mix: Next Day for anything urgent, Two Day for standard orders, and international services for Europe and beyond. DPD Direct is worth a look if you send a lot of international orders.

  4. Set rules so services assign themselves

Build rules in Zenstores Automations using weight, destination, order value, product type or channel. Match the service to what the customer paid for at checkout, so an express order doesn't go out on standard, and a standard order to Northern Ireland or the Highlands doesn't go out on express, where surcharges make that gap far wider than on a mainland route. International shipments can carry a default billing term, and customs documentation generates automatically from your product data.

  5. Print labels and tracking syncs back automatically

Select your batch and print. Labels go straight to the printer in picking order with no PDF to open, and integrated labels put the shipping label and dispatch note on one A4 sheet if you don't run thermal printers. Tracking numbers push back to Magento and update the order status, which triggers the tracking emails or SMS you have set up there. You can send that update when the label prints, or wait until DPD collect the parcels, so the customer's tracking link works the first time they click it rather than showing nothing until the evening.

We 100% recommend Zenstores. It saves so much time within the shipping process by booking in bulk with a click of the mouse, and spits out all the orders in one go. It's the best software we use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my own DPD account?

Not necessarily. You can connect an existing DPD account, or open one directly through Zenstores.

What about the Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland?

DPD treat those postcodes as their own zones, with different transit times and surcharges, so a national next day promise doesn't hold there. Rules in Zenstores can match DPD's zones directly, so those orders get the right service without anyone checking postcodes by hand. That also stops you quoting a delivery date you can't meet.

Can I ship DPD and DPD Local from the same account?

Yes, but they are separate integrations in Zenstores, so you add each one and they hold their own services and rules. Rules can send some orders to DPD and others to DPD Local depending on what you're shipping and where.

Does this work with Adobe Commerce as well as Magento?

Yes, both, plus older Magento 1 stores. Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source run on the same Magento 2 core, so the connection works the same way on either.

Can I ship international DPD orders from Magento this way?

Yes. Every DPD service on your account is available, including international shipping to Europe and beyond, and customs documentation generates automatically from your product data rather than being completed per shipment.

When does my customer actually get their tracking email?

That's your choice. Tracking can push to Magento as soon as the label prints, or when DPD collect the parcels. Waiting for collection means the tracking link shows real movement when the customer clicks it, which cuts the "where is my order" emails that come from tracking pages sitting empty all afternoon.

Can I use DPD alongside other carriers?

Yes. Zenstores integrates with 15 or more carriers including Royal Mail, Evri, Parcelforce and DHL, and rules can route different Magento orders to different carriers. DPD for anything time critical, a cheaper service for everything else.

What happens when DPD changes a service or a data requirement?

Zenstores maintains the carrier integrations, so service and data changes are handled before they reach your orders rather than breaking a rule you set up months ago.
