Why teams use this automation
From 1 November 2026, every B2C parcel to the EU needs product identifiers on its customs declaration. Filling in the M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID by hand is slow. One wrong or missing code can leave a parcel stuck at customs. Zenstores fills in the fields on every EU order automatically, so your team can ship internationally at scale without parcels getting held.
Who's this automation for?
This automation suits any brand outside of the EU selling to EU customers, especially:
- Brands growing international sales or already shipping high volumes of orders to the EU
- Brands with large catalogues or many product variants
- Sellers on several channels, such as Shopify, eBay and Amazon
- Retailers reselling branded products that already have barcodes
- Any brand that has had EU parcels held at customs
How this automation works
- The order is imported
A new order is imported to Zenstores from your connected store.
- Zenstores checks the product codes
If the SKU, ISBN, MPN or EAN is set on the product in your sales channel, Zenstores saves these fields against the product for use in customs. If this data isn't available from the sales channel, Zenstores will check your product data in your Product list in Zenstores.
- Zenstores sets the customs codes when shipping to an EU destination
When you book a shipment to an EU destination, Zenstores populates the M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID customs fields for your carrier before the shipping label is printed. Zenstores generates the rest of the customs documentation automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID?
They're the three product identifiers EU customs uses to identify what's in a parcel. The M-PID is your own product reference, such as a SKU. The NS-PID is the manufacturer's or supplier's own product code, such as a model or part number. The S-PID is a standard barcode, such as an EAN or GTIN, where one exists.
How do I add M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID to my EU shipments automatically?
Keep each product's SKU and barcode or manufacturer code in your sales channel. When an order is imported, Zenstores saves those codes. When you book a shipment to the EU, it fills in the M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID customs fields for your carrier, so nobody types them in by hand.
Where does Zenstores get the product codes from?
From the products in your connected sales channels, such as Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, eBay, Amazon and Etsy. It reads the SKU, plus codes like EAN, GTIN, ISBN and MPN where they're set. You can also add or edit these codes directly on the Product list in Zenstores.
Which carriers does it work with?
Zenstores adds the codes to the right customs fields for carriers including Royal Mail, Parcelforce, DHL, DPD, Evri and FedEx. See the full list of carriers where M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID are populated automatically in our guide to the EU's new product ID rules.
Do I need to set anything up?
The automation is built in and runs on every EU shipment. You just need each product's codes saved in your store or in the Product list in Zenstores. Our team can check your product data with you to make sure every product has its codes.
What happens if a code is missing from an order?
To catch it before a label is printed, add a Zenstores Automations rule to hold EU orders with missing product IDs, so your team can fix the product and release the order.
Does it work for every variant?
Yes. Zenstores reads the codes for each size, colour or variant separately, so every item on the declaration has its own codes.
